1. TAPS Fish House & Brewery

The Manzella Family opened up the original TAPS Fish House and Brewery in Brea in 1999. Core craft beer offerings include TAPS’ own Irish Red, Juicy Liu, and White Ale, with others from Mason Ale Works and Newtopia Cyder, plus additional rotating selections on-site.

“Our best-selling beer is our American Cream Ale, which has won several gold medals over the years at The Great American Beer Festival,” says Grant Tondro, vice president of operations. Quite a number of sparkling wines, whites, and reds, plus cocktails are also served.

The new food menu has “some fantastic sushi offerings,” Tondro notes and adds the Fish House restaurants are best known for Chilean seabass. That dish was recently tweaked but TAPS still has “our traditional plating that has been on the menu for over 20 years.” Elsewhere, customers can order clams, shrimp, salmon, fish and chips, calamari, steak and six different salads. Creme brule, lavas cake and s’mores are among the dessert items

Happy Hour fare is highlighted by stone oven pizzas, fish tacos, chowder fried and truffle bacon sliders. It runs 3-6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 3-5 p.m. Saturdays-Sundays. The popular Sunday Bruch is 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Also within the company umbrella is the production brewery/tasting room in Tustin and a TAPS Brewery + Kitchen in Yorba Linda. TAPS Great American Brewery is also slated for Anaheim this year.

An independent craft brewery on the La Palma Beer Trail that opened in 2019, Brewery X offers beers, lagers, ales and specializes in hard seltzer. Beers are listed under categories like European, hoppy, hazy, light, and easy and dark and malty. Micheladas come in mango, cucumber and spicy. The seltzer menu states each alcohol by volume percentage for such flavors as strawberry lemonade, mint julep, blackberry mojito and jungle juice.

Food trucks rotate monthly, but Brewery X also has a limited food menu consisting of burgers, fries (you can add duck fat or crab seasoning), buffalo chicken, grilled cheese sandwiches, the popular New York style pizza and chocolate éclair pie. Live music is provided by DJs and local acts.

Aside from food and drink, Brewery X regularly partners with the OC Smoke Kitchen charity — among others throughout SoCal — and is the site of monthly American Red Cross blood and plasma drives.

Originally a garage hobby for brewmaster Wes Parker, Bottle Logic opened a tasting room in 2014, serving six beers off a 15-barrel system. Currently, there are more than 400 beers and 30 additional ones brewed on an expanded 30-barrel main side system or 7-barrel experimental pilot system. The most popular selections are barrel-aged stouts, smoothie-style fruit-laden sours and Lightning in a Bottle cocktail-inspired barrel-aged offerings. The website is consistently updated. Rotating food trucks provide food. There is a shaded patio and indoor tables.

“We’re motivated by creating ‘aha’ moments for our guests — whether that’s with a palate-expanding new beer or hosting unique experiences in our tasting room,” says Creative Director Lindsay Langton.
