The company can install an awning in a matter of days, but material shortages and delays are forcing customers to wait longer than ever between booking and installation. Materials take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months to arrive. Hales said he’s receiving as many as five calls for awnings every day and encourages homeowners to get on his list now to ensure their project is finished before temperatures skyrocket.

Having the ability to keep the awning at least partially open reduces the built-up heat underneath due to the increased airflow without adding any direct sunlight.

“No one else has that option,” he added. “I’m the only one able to install them down here.”

Solara products are assembled in Phoenix, where the manufacturer reported temperatures being 20 degrees cooler beneath a Solara awning versus an uncovered patio. When daytime highs hit the triple digits, that can make the difference between being able to sit outside or staying in the house. 

Awnings also help homeowners save on their energy bills, Hales said. Without a patio covering, the relentless midday sun keeps air conditioners working overtime, particularly in homes with backyards facing west.
