Jersey City's Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company will perform at the ninth annual Dance on the Lawn festival in Montclair on Saturday, Sept 10.
Jersey City’s Nai-Ni Chen and Company is getting in on Montclair’s outdoor dance festival, Dance on the Lawn, on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. on the front lawn of the Montclair Public Library. This is the festival’s ninth year.
Performing along with Nai-Ni Chen and Company are Maxine Steinman & Dancers; New Jersey schools such as Bhaarat Nritya Academy, Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts, Danceworks & Co., Maurice Chestnut’s Dance Therapy; and New York professionals such as Abdel R. Salaam’s Forces of Nature among others.
“We are so fortunate to again be able to feature Nai-Ni Chen and Company at Dance on the Lawn,” said Charmaine Warren, Founder/Artistic Director and Laura Marchese, Managing Director of Dance on the Lawn. “We were lucky to have been colleagues with Nai-Ni, who tragically passed away in Hawaii this past December. Nai-Ni always said to us, ‘I am happy to help.’ We are so honored to have shared so many precious moments.”
This year’s festival will also include an original work by William Ervin, winner of Dance on the Lawn’s 2022 “Emerging Commissioned NJ Choreographer” award.
The Dance on the Lawn festival is meant to serve as a showcase and mentoring launchpad for New Jersey and New York’s choreographic talent and offers Montclair residents and neighboring communities a sneak peek at emerging and established artists from the NJ/NY area.
The festival is free to attend. The Montclair Public Library is located at 50 S Fullerton Ave., Montclair.
